SPRINGHILL DADS
V ROKE MANOR
Scoop
This game was a long time ago and old scoop is suffering a bit with continuity. One minute Robbie Thorpe is in goal - the next it's Tony? Mal was forced into playing but luckily Brian turned up a little on the late side - his turn for the dishes.

When Roke ran out versus the Dads sloping out the writing
was on the wall. They were bery young and fit looking and some strangely familiar
faces - but then that's not hard compered to the Dads. It seemed no sooner had
the Dads kicked off than Roke ran in two quick goals - or at last the Dads had
- for them! The first was deflected off Brian's leg and wizzed in passed Robbie
stranded at the other post, the second came from a corner Tony punched clear
Brian running in far post 0 - 2 (Robbie / Tony ?)
The
Dads did manage an attack - a lovely move in which Dave Hedges played the ball
out to Rob. He dummied the whole defence and set Dave Smith away. Dave burst
through and crossed for Dave Hedges' run into the box to volley home 1 - 2.
The
defence was caught out but Tim got in a great tackle
but couldn't prevent Wayne Bridge from scoring 1 - 3. Jason
was getting a bit dejected but got in a sliding tackle to cheer up the crowd
- how they cheered.
Rob
Frisby fired in a curling shot up & away into the top corner out of the
keepers reach reach 2 - 3. Robbie
was off his line but the Ryan Ashford ran around him and tapped it into the
empty net 2 - 4.
HALF
TIME
DADS 2 - 4 ROKE
The
Dads felt there was still something for them and they just had to concentrate
and hold their shape.
As if to give them more encouragement, from the kick off Jason won the ball
and initiated a lovely move finished by Rob when he pulled the ball back showed
it to Jason and gave John Frisby the chance - one touch and he placed it to
one side of keeper 3 - 4.
Jason had ball out wide Rob free inside open goal Jason shot
wide "It was on!" No malice was shown by any team mate to Jason. Wayne
Bridge broke away,
clipped the ball over the top to Kevin Gibbens to fire an unstoppable drive
into the back of the net 3 - 5.
The
next goal was either scored by John Willis;
1. Jason headed out to John Willis had to wait for ball to come down struck
waist high keeper just palmed out to top corner perfect strike 4 - 5.
or Jim Allen;
2.
From
a corner Jim met a low near post corner and clipped it precicely in passed the
keeper4 - 5
Answers on a postcard to Heysham Towers.
The end was a mad scramble - the Dads looking for the
winner and Roke desperately holding on! Both sides were probably glad to hear
the final whistle - for different reasons.
